Hello readers! My name is Rachel, and I am a high-schooler who enjoys reading, writing, drawing, singing, dancing, swimming, running, and watching Doctor Who. I am a Joss Whedon fan and love Buffy and Firefly. Recently, I read City of Bones, the first book in the Mortal Instruments series. Although I typically prefer YA science fiction, dystopian, and romance genres, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was well-written, humorous, and fast-paced. I found myself frequently updating my progress and sharing favorite quotes on Facebook. The only issue I encountered was difficulty keeping track of the various creatures and their relationships in the Shadowhunters' world, especially towards the end when Luke told his story. Despite my confusion, I understood the essential plot points and had some exciting "aha" moments.
However, one aspect I found tiresome was Jace's incessant teasing of Simon every time he was mentioned. It became repetitive and irritating. Overall, I loved the book and am excited to continue reading the series. I am also eager to watch the City of Bones movie as it feels rewarding to see the adaptation after finishing the book. If any TMI fans can explain the complexities of the creatures and their relationships, I would appreciate it!
